River Thames, Kingston to Teddington Lock is another urban length of river bank, being either next to main roads or in town parks, this is the final non-tidal part of the river. Hemp for the roach works. For chub try close to the boats on the far bank, and try a leger 3/4 the way across, back-leaded against the current which is not too heavy in the summer. The bream run in shoals, so if you can get on them you may be in for a big bag.
The carp are more likely to be caught in the downstream section, but a part of this – 400 metres downstream of the ferry in Hurst Park – is closed to fishing as it is part of a new conservation area.
This stretch of river runs from just downstream of Sunbury Lock along to Molesey Lock in north Surrey. Here the river is punctuated by a series of islands that in several sections reduce the width of the available river: Sunbury Court Island, Grand Junction Island, Platt’s Eyot (the largest), Garrick’s Ait, Tagg’s Island, and Ash Island which is just before Molesey Lock.
