Description


A stretch of the Thames offering river fishing in north Surrey. Fishing is free, and there are many swims.

This part of the river is accessed from a variety of points, with free parking available.

About a quarter of the way along this stretch lies Walton Wharf. This is accessed by Hill Rise that runs off of Manor Road. This area is a mooring point so fishing is not permitted directly around Hill Rise. This is where The Swan and The Anglers public houses are sited; KT12 2PF.

Felix Road Recreation Ground is located about midway along this length of the river. Parking is available in the surrounding roads (Dudley Road KT12 2JU, and Felix Road KT12 2LB) and the river bank is accessed via a short walk across this park.

The downstream end of this section can be accessed via Waterside Drive where there is ample parking near the leisure centre and the football club. KT12 2JG.

This stretch of river runs from Walton Bridge to Sunbury Lock at the north east end of Walton. Along this stretch there are two islands: Sunbury Lock Ait and, immediately upstream, Wheatleys Eyot.

The lock island is just downstream of the BP Amoco Oil Terminal on the north east side of Walton. Access is from Waterside Drive via the A3050 Hurst Road. KT12 2JD.

Chertsey Bourne is a very small river passing through a variety of parks, offering free fishing in Chertsey.

Numerous swims are available and the head of fish is surprisingly high. Barbel, chub, pike and carp are all present along with the usual silver fish.

CHERTSEY BOURNE RIVER LEVEL

Chertsey Bourne fishery location map

The Chertsey Bourne runs through Chertsey from north west to east. It emerges from the A320 and runs through Gogmore Farm Park where it can be fished at many places, then it passes under Guildford Street and flows through the Sports Ground adjacent to Eastworth Road where again it is fishable from several points. Downstream of Fordwater Road the Bourne enters Chertsey Meads where it is fishable from many areas.

Location

River Wey, Weybridge fishery is adjacent to Addlestone Road / Bridge Road. This stretch is south of the bridge (upstream), on the west bank. Accessed from a private road (wey Meadows. KT13 8XY ) that runs south off Addlestone Road by Town Lock.

Parking is available at two council car parks on the Meads (Car Park A and Car Park B) and many swims are within easy trolley distance of these.

More secluded swims can be found at the east end of the Meads.

River Thames, Dumsey Meadow is a pleasant stretch of river providing free fishing in Chertsey, with many swims. Dumsey Meadow can be accessed from a small car park next to Chertsey Bridge, or from a pay and display car park on the south side of Chertsey Bridge Road. The east end of the Meadow can be accessed via a public footpath, with parking possible around the entrance to Old Littleton Road.

A small number of swims are available either end of the bridge.

Penton Hook Lock island lies between Chertsey and Staines, and is just to the north east of Thorpe Park and adjacent to Penton Hook Marina. Access is from the east bank of the river via public footpaths leading from the Staines Road (B376). TW18 2JA.
