Angler amenities
Reading and the surrounding area is literally brimming with angling options. Three rivers provide tremendous opportunities for river angling around Reading: the Thames, and its two big tributaries the Loddon and Kennet. The Kennet is shadowed by, and merges on occasion with, the Kennet & Avon Canal to provide canal fishing. Reading has large numbers of fishing lakes clustered to the south west which supply stillwater angling for all the usual species and everything from match fishing to specimen hunting. In the south east of Reading, South Lake provides season ticket fishing for specimen carp and pike.
There are two fishing tackle shops in and around Reading. On the east edge of the town Woodley Tackle Box is located at 181 Wokingham Road RG6 1LT. Just to the north west of Reading is Thames Valley Angling at 258 Kentwood Hill, Tilehurst RG31 6DR.
Reading is a large conurbation and is thus home to many supermarkets with all the main chains present. To the north east of Reading, between the Thames and the railway lies, a Tesco Extra at Napier Road RG1 8DF, while on the west side of the town another Tesco Extra is sited at Portman Road RG30 1AW. In the south of Reading, a Morrisons is based at Off Basingstoke Road RG2 0HB.
