Location

Abingdon is located in the centre of south Oxfordshire, in the Thames valley. The town is south west of Oxford and the A34 runs through it. OX14 3LY.


Angler amenities

The River Thames provides ample river fishing in the area mainly courtesy of the town council’s season and day ticket. Fish species in the Thames in the Abingdon area include pike, bream, chub, barbel, roach, dace, and perch. The Swift Ditch also offers river angling with carp, bream, chub and perch present.

In addition syndicate carp angling is provided to the south of the town both by Phil’s Lake and Cables Lake (which holds carp to the upper thirties), and to the east by Thrupp and Bullfield Lakes which form the Radley Lakes fishing complex. All these venues are on a syndicate or season ticket basis.

South west of the town pleasure angling on a season ticket is provided by Grove Pond which holds carp, tench, bream, chub, rudd, roach and crucians.

Furthermore, fly fishing is available on a season ticket to the west of Abingdon at Millets Farm.

Abingdon holds several supermarkets for stocking up to go fishing. On the west side of the town by the A34 lies a Tesco Extra with petrol station at Marcham Rd, Abingdon, OX14 1TU. In the centre of old Abingdon there is a Waitrose at Abbey Close, Abingdon, OX14 3HL.
