Location
This length of canal runs from Hayes in the west, past the Paddington Arm entrance, through southern Southall, onto the join with the River Brent at Hanwell, finally ending at Elthorne Park Extension by the M4.
Description

The fishery begins at Station Road Bridge, Hayes (No 200) in urban surroundings with the towpath on the north bank, and runs eastwards past Shackles Dock Arm and under the railway bridge. The canal continues east under North Hyde Gardens, crosses the River Crane Aqueduct and then goes beneath the large A312 Hayes Bypass (The Parkway) bridge, and onto the join with the Paddington Arm at Bulls Bridge which is opposite a dry dock.
The canal is now in Southall and progresses eastward through suburban surroundings, under the Western Road and on towards Southall Recreation Ground which contains a WC, and is adjacent to the Old Oak Tree Inn. Along all this stretch from Bulls Bridge the towpath is on the north bank with a small road directly behind it.
The canal by the Inn has a winding hole, and then runs under North Hyde Bridge (No 202) and swings north east and onto Adelaide Dock and then Wolf Bridge at Norwood Road (A3005). From here the waterway continues north east and runs adjacent to Havelock Road before passing the entrance to the Havelock Road Arm (where a section of canal runs due north for a short distance) and up to Norwood Top Lock (No 90).
After the lock the canal runs under Glade Lane Bridge and on for a short distance to Norwood Lock. This lock sits in Glade Lane Canalside Park and from here the waterway runs east again for a little way past a winding hole and comes to the famous Three Bridges. At this point it runs under Windmill Lane and simultaneously crosses the railway.
From here the canal descends through the Hanwell Flight, six locks in rapid succession. It is then joined on the north side by the River Brent near to the Fox pub. The canal continues in a south easterly direction through treelined surroundings of the River Brent Park Walk, under Trumpers Way bridge, and on into the parkland of Elthorne Park Extension where Osterley Lock No 98 lies.
Here the River Brent flows around the lock, and the canal goes under the M4, through more parkland, under the Piccadilly Line (Wyke Green Railway) bridge, through more parkland and up to Gallows Bridge where the towpath crosses to the south bank. The waterway runs past the M4 on the north bank and by Clitheroe’s Lock Weir Entrance where the River Brent again runs off from the canal, and on to Clitheroe’s Lock No 99 where the fishery ends.
