The hair rig

A guide to the hair rig used in coarse fishing

The hair rig is a method of attaching a bait to the hook without the bait being pierced by the hook.

It is a method devised in the 1970’s and is widely used to catch carp and other large fish with baits that would be impractical to push onto the hook.

Today the hair rig is often used in conjunction with the so-called knotless knot which attaches the bait to the hook and the hook to the hooklink in one go. This is a simple method which is ideal for beginners.
