Winter is the toughest time of year for carp fishing. Not only must the angler contend with less clement weather, lower temperatures, and shorter days, but he must also cope with lower feeding and different behaviour from the carp.
On any water a different angling approach is needed in winter, and lower expectations. Where a 24 hour session in June might put ten decent carp on the bank at a runs water, it is probable that half that number would be a success in winter.
Many carp anglers fine down with lighter tackle and smaller baits to increase the chances of a take. Rigs and baits may need to change and the place to lay your traps will most likely need to shift as well.
