Throughout the Thames valley area there are numerous rivers offering angling for barbel. The River Thames itself is an obvious choice for the much-loved barbel, and the numerous tributaries of the Thames such as the Loddon, the Kennet, the Cherwell, the Colne, and the Mole have many beats where barbel are present. Furthermore barbel are also present in canals and channels in the region and also in other river systems such as the River Great Ouse, the Medway, and the Kent Stour. Additionally, dotted about the region, there are occasional still-waters holding barbel.
